Our Club

Burton Constable Company of Bowmen is a friendly archery club, which comprises of a Senior, Junior & Disabled section and is based near Sproatley, to the north-east of Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where we shoot within the grounds of Burton Constable Hall, which must be among the best shooting grounds in the world. The club provides a competitive as well as social aspect for all.

Current club members enjoy competitions monthly at the club and are actively encouraged to attend external competitions when they feel ready to do so.

The club holds an open Medieval Longbow Shoot in June and the East Riding Open Shoot in August, where archery clubs from the Yorkshire region shoot together.

Clothing: You will need to wear suitable clothing.  Aim to keep warm and dry and try to select clothing that is not too baggy on the upper body and arms. Sensible shoes or boots are recommended (no open toed footwear is permitted). Long hair must be tied back. Bring something waterproof to wear as sessions will continue, regardless of the weather.  If the weather is really bad, we can go indoors.

If we cancel a beginners session, the session will be made up at another time.  If you miss a session then we cannot make this up unfortunately, but will always be on hand for advice.

After completion of your beginner’s course, you can decide whether to join the club. See ‘Members area’  ‘Club Documents’ for costs. Once you are a member, you will be able to borrow club equipment until you are ready to buy your own. Please seek advice from the coaches before buying equipment.

If you are an established archer and want to join our club, we would ask that you demonstrate this by way of a beginner’s course certificate or a demonstration of your ability to shoot, to one of our coaches.

All archers are welcome at the club to shoot with us. However, you must be Archery GB registered and show your current members card as proof.  There is a small charge to pay for the session, currently £2.50. This does not include club competition days (see Events page).

Have-A-Go sessions

We run Have-A-Go sessions at Burton Constable and occasionally at off-site venues.  To discuss these, please contact our Events Officer, Edd via the Contact us page,  who will discuss your requirements, take details, contact the members to ensure there are enough people to run the session and get back to you.  Please note, that due to demand we may not be able to honour all requests.
